New addition to the award-winning Atzaró African Ultimate Experience supports the conservation of orphaned elephants at Elephant Havens

Luxury hospitality company Atzaró Collection has added a visit to Elephant Havens, Botswana’s only elephant orphanage, to its nine-day Atzaró African Ultimate Experience itinerary.
The experience includes a scenic helicopter transfer from Atzaró Okavango Camp and a choice of guided visits to the elephant orphanage for rescued elephants.

Meeting Botswana’s rescued elephants
A ten-minute helicopter flight over the waterways and floodplains of the Okavango Delta takes guests from Atzaró Okavango Camp to Elephant Havens, on the banks of the Gomoti River at the edge of the Delta.
At the orphanage, guests meet orphaned baby elephants and hear the stories behind their rescue and rehabilitation. Guided by experienced handlers, visitors learn about the care the elephants receive, elephant behaviour, and the conservation challenges facing Botswana’s wild elephant population. The visit includes an introduction to Elephant Havens and its work, close-up time with the elephants, the chance to offer approved treats, and take photographs.

Several visiting options are offered. The public visit runs for one hour and includes a guided tour, educational talk, elephant viewing, treats and photographs. For those looking for a more immersive visit, an extended 3-hour elephant experience runs from 09:00 to 12:00. During this time, guests enjoy close interaction with the elephants and their handlers, the chance to walk alongside the babies as they forage, and depending on the day, you may also witness them swimming or enjoying a refreshing mud wallow. There is also an option of a 3-hour private experience.
Elephant Havens is Botswana’s first and only elephant orphanage. It provides a home for orphaned and abandoned elephants, offering care and rehabilitation to return them to the wild. Beyond the elephants themselves, the orphanage supports conservation education, community outreach and peaceful coexistence between local communities and wildlife. Every visit contributes directly to this work.
Prices for the tour to Elephant Havens include the helicopter ride, entry to the elephant sanctuary, and a donation of $100 per couple towards the sanctuary’s conservation and rehabilitation work.
The Elephant Havens experience can only be booked by 2 or more people. Prices for single-person bookings advised on request.
Guests can also add a champagne helicopter stop to their experience (cost to be advised) where the pilot will land on a deserted palm island where guests can enjoy a peaceful break and views of the delta.
“Our guests kept telling us the same thing after their stay in the Delta: they wanted to give something back. Elephant Havens does remarkable work rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned elephants, and we wanted our guests to see that work first-hand, not just hear about it. It felt like the right addition to this itinerary, and a natural extension of how we already think about conservation across Atzaró Okavango.”
Vicente Guasch, Chief Global Officer, Atzaró Collection

The nine-day itinerary
The 9-day itinerary combines a city break at Atzaró Cape Town with a stay at Condé Nast Traveller-recommended Atzaró Okavango, the Collection’s private concession in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. The Elephant Havens visit is a new addition, taking place during the stay at Atzaró Okavango Camp.
Atzaró African Ultimate Experience begins with three nights at Atzaró Cape Town, including a full-day Peninsula tour taking in Chapman’s Peak Drive, Cape Point Nature Reserve and the penguin colony at Boulders Beach. Guests then travel to Atzaró Okavango Camp for four nights, with game drives, mokoro canoe outings and guided walks, before returning to Cape Town for a final night.
